Barbara Gibbons-Roscoe Children's Book Offer

Saxocracy at JAM Next Week

This month’s guest at JAM is Saxocracy on Friday 25th April 2025 at 8pm in The Bridge.

“Saxocracy” is a new nine-piece band formed in late 2024. It was inspired by the Charlie Parker tribute band ‘Supersax’, which performed harmonised arrangements of Parker’s improvised solos using five saxophones, accompanied by a three-piece rhythm section, to which we have added guitar and trumpet.

The musicians have many years of experience, you will see some familiar faces on stage! We will be showcasing the sound of the saxophone section, some of the Supersax catalogue, and a variety of original pieces arranged specifically for this line up; all with plenty of opportunity to highlight the improvisation skills of our soloists!

Messy Church for the Kids at Easter

On Good Friday 18th April 2025 from 10:30am to 11:45am kids are invited to enjoy the free Messy Church in All Saints' Church Hall.

The morning will explore the events of Holy Week from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday through story, crafts, games and other activities in and around All Saints' Church and Hall.

The morning will conclude by walking together to Milford Green for an outdoor Good Friday service by Christians Together in Milford & Everton, before enjoying Hot Cross Buns.

The activities will be led by volunteers from the church with parents/carers and children taking part together.

About Milford on Sea Youth FC

 

The village football club was founded in May 2002 by three local ladies, Sarah Elliott, Sara Jeffcock and Hilary Short.

The club caters for girls and boys from ages under 8 to under 16 and competes in the Bournemouth Youth Football League on Sundays throughout the season in mini, 9-a-side and 11-a-side soccer.

The club has a Hampshire FA accreditation and is linked to Bashley FC, giving the U18 & U21 boys the best chance to progress from youth to senior football at an established senior football club.

The squad trains early evening on Thursdays, and play games every Sunday in the Bournemouth Youth League.

Everyone is welcome and new players are always invited.

New Local Kayak Hire Business

Yachtmail Chandlery on Lymington Quay is owned and run by Milford on Sea residents Beverley & Andy Levers, and they have just launched a new kayak hire service.

The kayaks are great fun and ideal for the complete novice or seasoned pro.

Starting at the Lymington Town Quay, there is lots to see as you take a leisurely paddle along the Lymington River, meandering through an eclectic mix of different boats on their river moorings and past Lymington’s two prestigious Marinas.

For the more adventurous, once you have paddled past the wave screens, you can head west into Oxey Lake, or East into Pylewell Lake for a picnic lunch.

Lymington Kayak Hire offers a Single Kayak for £15 per hour, or Double Kayak for £20 per hour. Bookings can be for one hour or more.

Buoyancy aids and Dry bags will be provided for the hire.

Wetsuits & Aquashoes are available to purchase in Yachtmail Chandlery.

Note: Each session booked includes a 15-minute safety briefing from trained staff.

For insurance purposes, there must be at least one person over 18 on the water per booking. For single kayakers, there is a minimum age of 16.

Today we visited for Sunday lunch (you’ll need to book!). From the three meat and two vegetarian roast options (also fish pie or meat/vegan burger) we chose the pork with burnt apple and miso and two vegetarian wellingtons. The mains were served with two splendidly risen Yorkshire puddings and a generous selection of tasty vegetables and roast potatoes with unlimited gravy… after which we were full… but a Sunday lunch deserves pudding.
