Funding nearly there for Magical Milford

Magical Milford are just slightly short of the JustGiving target of £1500 which is the amount they need to create magical Christmas lights and decorations on Milford on Sea village green and in the village centre.

The event costs approximately £6500 to put on, therefore sponsorship and public donations are vital. If they can surpass the target, they can add some extra sparkle!

More about Magical Milford at Christmas 2023 

This year, the Christmas Lights & Decorations Switch On will take place on Milford on Sea village green at 6pm on Friday 1st December 2023.

At the same time there will Carol Singing and a Christmas Service on the village green, together with Late Night Shop Opening and an array of eateries open for everyone to enjoy.

Free parking will be available in the Sea Road car park all day.

Magical Milford at Christmas has once again been planned by Tracy Haupt and Diana Brushwood.

As in previous years, the High Street will be closed from Boots the Chemist to The Coastal Bakery for the evening.

Following the switch on, a number of Carols will be sung by the Milford Primary School choir and also Milford’s resident choir: Total Voice. 

Everyone will be encouraged to join in, to create a truly magical atmosphere. 

Carol sheets will be handed out that evening, but to reduce paper, Tracy & Diana would prefer as many as possible to save the verses to their mobiles.

For those using Facebook, do regularly check the page ‘Magical Milford at Christmas’, as this is kept up to date with news of what is happening and where all the Carols and their verses will be listed.

Father Christmas will also be in Santa’s Grotto.

This will be the fifth year the ladies have organised the event and each year, they like to add something extra. This year the nativity scene will have two additional pieces, again painted by Gillian Key; a local artist. 

Also more businesses have requested a Christmas tree above their shops, compared to last year. A large number of their tree brackets have been replaced, out of surplus funds raised by Tracy and Diana last year, as they were deemed unsafe.

On the village green there will be the winter wonderland of trees again, plus reindeer. The large tree at the top of the green will be lit, providing a wonderful place to sit in the evening and enjoy a hot drink with friends/family.

To brighten the road, you’ll find snowmen on the bollards, the post box and refuse bin tops decorated, and garlands added to benches.

Work starts week commencing 27th November with the trees being delivered.

Simeon and the lads from Aubrey Farm will be on the green with their tractor, to put the two large trees in place. Tracy & Diana will position the remaining trees to create a Winter Wonderland scene and then the remainder of the team (their husbands!), will work on securely fixing them in place.

The Electricians will be hard at work too, dressing all the trees on the green with white lights and connecting them into the supply. They will also wire the coloured lights to the smaller trees above the businesses. Timers will be coordinated and then they’ll be made secure in the brackets.

The nativity scene will be positioned in front of the main Christmas tree and finally, the remaining areas of the green will be decorated with the help of Pam Wright; one of Tracy’s friends and designer of the post box and litter bin tops.

It all takes a few days to complete the scene, so hopefully the weather will be kind for everyone involved during this busy week.

Thanks to everyone who has donated with support funding, without generous local business sponsors and private individual donations this special event could not take place.

If previous years are anything to go by, we can expect the bar to be raised again, to give us something extra sparkly to enjoy at the end of the year!

Millie Live at The Cave on Wednesday

David is a local musician, music teacher and in the band Sunstroke. David also performs as a soloist, and is a popular and regular act enjoyed at The Cave, and he never gives less than 100%. His eclectic range of tracks spreading through the decades from the 60’s to the modern era will have you fully engaged, up on your feet and singing along. Wednesday 20th December: Phil Holbird

This is Phil’s first time playing at The Cave; however, he has come highly recommended from several of our regular customers. His performance consists of impromptu audience participation alongside his ability to play almost anything on your playlist. He will even issue some post-it notes for you to request your favourite song which he will do his take on it. For an evening of good fun, laughter and wonderful music, Phil is not to be missed!!


New Year's Eve - Sunday 31st December from 8.30pm: DJ Paul Stoner.

Paul has performed at The Cave on a couple of NYE’s and has gone down very well, hence why he is returning to take The Cave into 2024. Paul will take everyone through the decades, starting from the 60’s to the modern era.

Mandy Black at Cake International

In a recent article; 'Rebrand for Mandy at Elmsleigh Cakes', we announced that renowned Milford on Sea cake designer and baker, Mandy Black had been personally invited by Paul Bradford, to be part of his display at Cake International, the biggest cake show in the world.

Paul Bradford is a holder of the prestigious Disciples D’Escoffier award, and one of the world's most respected cake designers.

We also announced that Mandy had recently rebranded her company from Elmsleigh Cakes to Amanda Black Cakes to reflect the individuality of her sophisticated bespoke cake designs. 

Well, the Cake International Show took place last weekend at Birmingham NEC and we thought you might like to see her delightful, and exquisitely detailed, cake entitled 'Baby Elephant'.

Mandy is now back to reality in the village, and taking booking for traditional Christmas fruit cakes, or sponge cake alternatives. All of which are available in sizes 4 inches to 8 inches, and will be available for collection Christmas week. 

During this year we sadly lost our cheese shop in Milford on Sea village, and it is worth cheese lovers knowing that Mandy does Celebration Cheese Towers using a selection of specialty cheeses. These make a great centrepiece and can also be ordered in time for the festive season.

Christmas Eve Cookie Boxes are in their design stage. Numbers will be limited, so if you think you might like to order these you will need to be quick!

About Amanda Black Cakes

Mandy initially founded her company in Milford on Sea as Elmsleigh Cakes in 2011.

Mandy's journey so far has taken her from being a computer operations manager who started making cakes for her kids, and on to making cakes for everyone, including our royal family.

In 2022 (and again in 2023), Mandy received worthy recognition of her talents as a baker and cake artist when she was recognised as one of the Top Three Cake Makers in the New Forest.

In summer 2023, Mandy was invited to be a Cake Judge at the New Forest & Hampshire County Show.

In September 2023, she attended a week long intensive course led by Paul Bradford, holder of the Disciples D’Escoffier award which he was awarded for his dedication to sharing his cake honing her already exceptional cake making skills, and one of the world's most respected cake designers.

Dignified Remembrance Day on the Green

The Royal British Legion Milford on Sea held a Remembrance Service on Milford on Sea village green n Saturday 11th November 2023.

After many recent storms, the morning was bright and crisp with a clear blue sky. The village green was prepared with a temporary War Memorial and flag pole, all organised by Peter Gibbs and our village branch of the Royal British Legion.

A large crowd of Milford on Sea residents arrived from 10.40am and the Remembrance Service started at 11am with a perfectly observed 2 Minutes Silence.

A Remembrance Poppy Wreath was also laid at the memorial within the walls of Hurst Castle which is in memory of all those who served at Hurst Castle from 1544 to 1956.

About Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day on 11th November each year (also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states, and in several other non-Commonwealth countries, to observe the end of First World War hostilities and to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

Hostilities ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Allied Forces. The First World War formally ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28th June 1919.

Lest we forget.

Milford on Sea Remembrance Day was followed on Sunday 12th November 2023 by:

Remembrance at Keyhaven War Memorial at 2pm, and The Royal British Legion Remembrance Service in All Saints' Church at 3pm.

Milford Primary School Choir recorded two songs for the church service and children read their own prayers. Many classes in the school had been doing work on the subject of Remembrance and their work was exhibited in the church for all to see. 

The service also included three video clips: A naval veteran of the Second World War talking about bringing home Prisoners of War from the Far East, a gentleman talking about being a child in London during the Blitz and seeing a VI going up the Thames and an Ukrainian talking about being homesick having been a refugee in this country now for nearly two years.

Everyone was welcome to remember those who have fallen.

So, No64 Pizza, our ‘new to 2023’ mobile pizza business, has recently signed up to a brand-new app called My Streats, an App designed specifically for street food vendors.

My Streats, is a FREE app that will tell you where we are & when (read more below).

To take a look just go to ‘My Streats’ in your app store, or simply scan the QR code below (newer phones have a QR code reader built into their camera, otherwise use a free QR reader app):

This will take you to the app download or, if you already have the app installed, this code will take you straight to our profile – easy-peasy!

On the app we / you can:

- Let you know where we are, and when – Because of the nature of pop-ups they can sometimes be short notice, or an event can be cancelled (due to weather, for example), and on the app we can keep you posted, in real-time.

- We can tell you what’s on our menu, including our vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free offerings, so you’ll know in advance that we cater for any dietary requirements within your party, or if we ‘re serving your favourite!

- We can also send you notifications via the app (if you want to receive them, you don’t have to!) to tell you that we’ve just started serving and where, you may want to drop by for a take-away on your way home!
