Holly Gardens raise over £2600 for Macmillan

Back in September the residents at Holly Gardens Milford on Sea came together and organised a fabulous coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support raising £2620.70.

Lis Cotts commented on Facebook; "As always these things don't just happen with a few people but with the support, encouragement, time and dedication of lots.

Our local community came together and we raised this phenomenal amount. All the business and individuals who contributed have been thanked for their donations personally and a huge thank you again to everyone who came.

We are looking forward to next year already!

About the Friends of Hurst Castle

The Friends of Hurst Castle are a local group of people who volunteer to support the historic castle in a number of ways, whilst having an active social side and enjoying the opportunity to meet new friends.

They also publish Hurst Tidings, a hard copy or online magazine for members.

The Friends of Hurst Castle were formed in 1986. At that time, the Castle was managed by English Heritage, but since May 1996 there has been joint management; with English Heritage still in charge of the fabric of the building and general policies and the local everyday management provided by Hurst Castle Ferries, run by Jason Crane.

Punchy's Autobiography completed by friends

In April 2014 we published an article entitled; 'Punchy Through the Covers' about the life and times of Alan Rayment a former Hampshire county cricketer, latterly a dancer and a resident of Milford on Sea. Click here to read.

The Advertiser & Times this week reported in an article by Chris March that Alan had sadly died in October 2020 aged 92.

However, the story does not end there...

Alan was in the process of writing what would have been three volumes of his autobiography when he passed away. To ensure his memories were not lost, Alan's loyal friends stepped in to completed his latest volume using Alan’s extensive notes and recorded interviews.

Chris March completes the story. To read the A&T article; please click here.

Welcome to 'Butchers on the Green'

Following the well-earned retirement of our longstanding and excellent village butcher, David Gates, the new owner, experienced master butcher Keith Potter is now putting his mark on the shop.

Initial feedback on Facebook has been very positive and people are enjoying the traditional meats everyone would expect, plus other specials such as duck and chicken stir frys, steak and kidney pies, ham and even Marmite sausages - certainly a filling you will love or hate!

The Butchers Shop in Church Hill Milford on Sea is also to have a new name; 'Butchers on the Green'.

PS: The shop also recently had a competition on  Facebook to find the Marmite sausages in the picture below. The winner will enjoy tasting them soon.
