Enjoy Milford on Sea: South Lawn Hotel wins prestigious TripAdvisor 'Best of the Best' Award

This coming October, Tim & Nikki Wedgwood will celebrate 10 years since purchasing South Lawn Hotel, and they are delighted that their hotel has once again, for the second year running, achieved a TripAdvisor "Best of the Best" Award.

The award considers the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings and ranks the best accommodations rated and reviewed by travellers. Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best award winners are among TripAdvisor's top 1% of listings.

Additionally, they have achieved No.4 in the world and No.1 in the UK in the category of Pet-Friendly Hotel. It is clear that the team have gained a fine reputation for looking after guests with well-behaved dogs.

Also this year, the hotel added some suites/apartments with kitchens to our room stock, which include a one-bedroom studio as well as a one-, two-, and three-bedroom suite. They have also refurbished 10 rooms, turning them into garden rooms with private terraces and direct access to the grounds.

South Lawn is now a 57-bedroom hotel with the Cedar Tree Restaurant and Banqueting for up to 150.

South Lawn is a busy hotel in an enviable location with an excellent reputation for the hotel and its restaurant, The Cedar Tree. This charming country hotel is dog-friendly and set in five acres of landscaped grounds, close to Milford on Sea village and the coast.

The Cedar Tree Restaurant is open to all and serves tasty breakfasts, great-value lunches, and delicious afternoon cream teas, which can be served in the hotel gardens. In the evenings, traditional and international cuisine is served, and a wide range of fine wines complements your meal.

The Terrace is ideal for exclusive and relaxed outdoor entertaining, light lunches, and leisurely afternoon teas.

Accomodation: In spring 2022, South Lawn added 24 new bedrooms in a new extension, taking the hotel to 51 en-suite bedrooms, the majority of which have views over the gardens and beyond.

In 2025, the hotel added some suites/apartments with kitchens to our room stock, which include a one-bedroom studio as well as a one-, two-, and three-bedroom suite. They also refurbished 10 rooms, turning them into garden rooms with private terraces and direct access to the grounds.

The hotel is dog-friendly, and your furry friend is welcome to stay in a designated room.

Events: In 2023, the hotel added The Pavilion to replace The Cornwallis Suite. This large space is 18m x 9m and can be used as one large private hire room or event space. It can also be divided into 3 smaller suites for use by as few as 20 people. Each side has bi-fold doors that open onto semi-private terraces.

There is also a boardroom for smaller private meetings or gatherings.

In the Summer of 2023, South Lawn was rated as 'Excellent' on TripAdvisor and the No.1 hotel in the New Forest. TripAdvisor also recognised South Lawn as the 'No1 Best Value' of 2,955 places to stay in the UK.

In 2024, South Lawn was accredited with the 'Best of the Best' Award by TripAdvisor, a recognition achieved by only 1% of hotels worldwide. They were also No.14 in the world in the TripAdvisor Best Pet-Friendly Hotels.

In 2025, South Lawn was again accredited with the 'Best of the Best' Award by TripAdvisor. They were also No.14 in the world in the TripAdvisor Best Pet-Friendly Hotels category. Additionally, they achieved No.4 in the world and No.1 in the UK in the category of Pet-Friendly Hotel.
