New Forest District Council (NFDC) have announced that as part of their ongoing coastal maintenance, they are soon starting work at Milford on Sea.
NFDC are going to add 4,500 tonnes of shingle to the beach to improve beach levels and help protect the seawall ahead of the winter. They will also also be repairing three groynes located opposite the Needles Eye Café.
During the works:
- The western side of Hurst Road East car park will be closed for the duration of the works to allow for delivery lorries.
- Sections of the beach will be temporarily inaccessible to allow for safe operation of machinery.
- Supervised control measures and diversions will be in place to allow visitors to safely use the promenade whilst lorries deliver the shingle to the site.
The NFDC coastal team expect the work will take several weeks, depending on tidal and weather conditions.
Update: Work Underway
The first loads of the 4,500 tonnes of shingle arrived on the 25th September and are ready to replenish the beach.
It currently looks like the beach has decided to relocate onto the promenade!
