The next New Forest Organ Society will feature Chris Jones on Tuesday 13th June starting at 2.30pm at All Saint's Hall, Greenbank Drive, Milford on Sea.
Chris' interest in music began with the piano, but he was introduced to the electronic organ at age thirteen and was soon performing in public. He played the Hammond C3 for dancing at Streatham Ice Rink and worked in an organ shop in Croydon.
After turning professional in 1985 he has played at most societies and festivals around the country. He has a special interest in rebuilding organs to create lightweight portables and has designed (among others) a three-manual touring instrument using Yamaha and Technics components. Performing using the Yamaha AR100 with a Ketron SD40 arranger module, he is able to feature the best of theatre, classical and drawbar organs as well as the latest sounds and styles.
Chris says that he just enjoys playing live and getting the best out of the instrument. Expect his programme to include some musicals, marches, romantic ballads and Latin American themes.
Guest admission: £10 at the door. (Members: £5.)
About New Forest Organ Society
This friendly club is for all music enthusiasts, particularly those who enjoy the sounds of the latest keyboards and organs. Formed in 1979, the club has members across the New Forest, but holds its Concert Club Live! in Milford on Sea.
Concert Club Live! is a monthly event with top professional keyboard entertainers hosted by the New Forest Organ Society. Each concert includes a wide range of musical styles and eras.
Whether you are a keyboard player yourself or just enjoy the music, the monthly afternoon concerts will have something to offer. And for Milford residents it's not far to go either - just up Greenbank Close to All Saints' Hall.
The Covid pandemic halted club activities of course, but membership has now increased to 127 with new additions each month. Attendance at concerts has grown to around 80 members and guests but they need to gain more members if they are to continue to be viable into the future.
Tickets are not required - just pay at the door. Entry includes refreshments at the interval. A raffle is also held.
