Christmas Dining in Milford on Sea

19 February 2023

Beach Sandbar to be revealed soon

Milford on Sea beach is soon to see the sandbar revealed in front of the Hordle Cliff beach huts.

Significantly low tides are forecast for next week and this should result in the sandbar being exposed.

All of a sudden, the majority of Milford on Sea beach becomes soft sand as apposed to the stony beach we are all familiar with.

A sandbar is a small island, rising out of the water and formed by shifting tides and winds, so not every sandbar is permanent, and every sandbar is different!

Nearshore sandbars, also called breaker bars, are a common feature of sandy coasts and subject to energetic wave action. They are a ridge of sand built up by currents especially in coastal waters.

Sandbars play an important role in beach stability since they reduce the energy of waves by breaking them, thereby reducing the effects of erosion.
