Rev David Hellsten moving to pastures new

After nearly 13 years at Milford on Sea Baptist Church, and becoming central to the community, Rev David Hellsten and his family are moving to Redditch (just south of Birmingham) where he will become the new pastor for a local parish.

Swedish born David is married to English born Annette, and they have two children, Lara and Simeon.

Before coming to Milford on Sea, David & Annette were missionaries in Albania. First as church planters with Operation Mobilisation (OM), and later David taught at the Albanian Bible Institute, training Albanian church leaders and missionaries.

Since arriving in Milford on Sea in April 2011, he has not only been central in his church, but also a key figure at a number of village events, such as 'Carols on Green', 'Songs of Praise at Keyhaven Quay', and the 'All Churches Services'.

As another example of David's work, in April 2022, the church hosted a very well attended, and fun community street party to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, with a commemorative Cytisus tree being planted in the church garden.

David commented: "I’ve enjoyed Milford very much, but it’s time for new adventures in a different part of the country. And yes, we will miss being beside the seaside…!"

David also became an author earlier in 2023, when he self-published a book entitled: A Glimpse of What We Lost.

It is described as a kind of biblical fantasy, trying to imagine a sinless world.

Extract: One morning, on his way to work, Rod from London unexpectedly finds himself transported to a strange world where people walk around naked, don’t eat meat, and don’t seem to know about death. They also have no concept of money or wars, and not much by way of technology. As Rod gets to know the place and its people, he tries to argue for the superiority of his own world, not realising that his presence is endangering the paradisiacal existence of his new friends...
