Over 300 already checked in October Blood Pressure Campaign

The response from the public to the League of Friends Health Hub’s Free Blood Pressure testing initiative has been extremely rewarding for all the volunteers taking part.  The campaign is now half way through and continues until the end of October.

High blood pressure is a silent killer and untreated can be responsible for health hazards from stroke to heart attacks.

Over 300 people have called into the Milford Community Centre over the past two Saturday mornings to be tested by a team of four nurses. League of Friends volunteers have also made themselves useful holding onto dogs while their owners had their checks.

Volunteers were checked too which was very fortunate for one who returned a significantly raised result: ‘I need to say thank you! I was all for helping on Saturday not realising it was me who needed that check. You are all saving lives. I am so pleased I am a member of the League of Friends Health Hub.’

The majority of those checked over the past two Saturdays have been reassured to know they had no cause for concern but 30% were found to need further investigation.

Free Blood Pressure checks will continue to be offered on 22nd and 29th October from 8.30 to 1pm at the Milford on Sea Community Centre.

This initiative to support the health of the residents of Milford on Sea has the support of Milford Surgery, the Milford Pharmacy and the NHS Primary Care Network.
