New Forest youth charity, Olivia Inspires is extremely grateful for a donation from Milford on Sea’s Barry Phillips’ Youth Trust which has just closed.
The Trust was set up in 2011 in memory of Barry Phillips, a former Arnewood School teacher who lived for many years in Milford on Sea and made a huge and lasting contribution to the village. How many realise that the Youth Club was started by Barry and it was his foresight that enabled the new Community Centre to be made possible?
Barry Phillips’ Youth Trust was set up to help young people in the Milford on Sea area realise their aspirations and gain a positive attitude to life by giving financial aid to help towards a vocation or career.
After nearly 10 years the trustees have reached the difficult decision to close the Trust and distribute the remaining money to a similar cause.
Barry’s widow, Jenny Spenser said: “We are delighted to be able to offer the money and extremely happy to hand over our mantel to Olivia Inspires and hope you can keep Olivia’s memory alive and continue to do so much to help others.”
Milford on Sea student, Olivia Burt died in 2018. Olivia Inspires was set up to allow her spirit to live on by helping young people aged 11 to 18 years, whose families live in the New Forest District Council area and who are facing financial hardship. Grants are provided to help them develop their potential in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), the arts and sport.
