Village shows respect on Armistice Day

As the village paid respect on Armistice Day at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the atmosphere was captured in the image below by Kerry, a local resident.

The two minutes silence was perfectly observed, and socially distanced, at the ceremony led by representatives of the Milford on Sea branch of the Royal British Legion.

It is a pleasure to see that Lockdown did not prevent Milford on Sea people marking the event.

As they say, a picture paints a thousand words.

On Remembrance Day a 'virtual' Reflection & Remembrance service was held involving the Milford on Sea Churches and Scouts.

The event was organised by Chris Hobby, a sixth-generation villager and member of the village's branch of the Royal British Legion whose grandfather died in the First World War.

Milford is getting More Magical for Christmas

As we all sit out this latest Lockdown, Christmas is fast approaching, along with the hope that we can all celebrate together in some way by then.

The 'Make Milford More Magical this Christmas' team led by Diana Brushwood & Tracy Haupt, are well into making preparations to make the heart of the village brighter than ever for us all this year.

Anyone who visited the village green on Tuesday 10th or Wednesday 11th November will have seen a group of men busy digging and placing ducting in the green, ready for the Christmas lights. This year an investment has been made from generous donations to put permanent ducting in, rather than having to continually lift the grass for cables to be inserted. In addition to the cost of the lights and sundries, this also meant getting a groundworks contractor, to do the work. Very fortunately, local resident Ben Haines did something extremely generous:

Diana said: "A massive thank you to Ben from Gen One Ltd for carrying out this work free of charge. You and your guys are truly amazing."

A fundraising campaign has been underway to 'Make Milford More Magical this Christmas', and a lot of village residents have already donated to date, and the volunteer organisers are very grateful.

So far, the team have purchased more commercial LED lights for £1295 to make the Village Green extra bright this year. Plus the costs associated with the installation of all cables and lights is £1500. These costs are huge and greater than you may expect.

On top of this, they have material costs for Christmas scenes painted by local artists with a small nativity scene (the wood alone is £130). The forest of trees will be back similar to last year but with extra lights and sparkle, bicycle wreaths are to be refreshed and other decorations paid for.

The JustGiving page is still open if you would like to donate - please click here - or you can leave a donation at the Parish Council Office.

Should you wish to contact the ladies regarding possible sponsorship or simply with an offer of help, then please do so on: tracyhaupt01@aol.com and dianabrushwood@gmail.com

-----------------------------------------

PS: As Ben has been so generous, the least we could do was give his company a plug. If you are looking at having groundworks or hard landscaping done, why not check out his Facebook page from the link below:

Mark buys Eco-flow

Mark Nineham is a Milford on Sea resident and the Managing Director of his family run contract packing business based in Bournemouth, which is now in its 33rd year.

For the past 20 years they have been packing a product called the Eco-flow Tap Adaptor. The Tap Adapter is an extremely useful piece of kit that screws onto the end of your existing tap and gives you functions and flexibility you never had before.

Mark explains that the The Key Features of the Eco-flow Tap Adapter are:
  • Reduces your water bill and do your bit for the environment: The Eco-flow Tap Adapter saves up to 18% of water when set to Shower Spray, and 11.5% water saving using the Aerated Flow setting.
  • Makes sink cleaning easy with 360° rotation
  • Two functions in one tap: choose between Aerated Flow for handwashing or filling the sink, and Shower Spray for rinsing plates and gently but effectively washing vegetables.
Fit in moments, no tools required, start enjoying your new tap straight away.

Prices start from under £12.50.

Now, after packing the product for 20 years, and knowing how useful and effective the product is, Mark has actually bought the company which makes the Eco-flow Tap Adaptor.

After many months of re-branding and freshening up the website (of which they enlisted the creative skills of fellow villager Carrie Bugg of www.carriebuggphotography.co.uk) they are now all set for the launch.

To celebrate this, Mark is offering the readers of the Milford News Bulletin a special 10% discount off the order with free delivery. Just go to www.eco-flow.co.uk and enter MOSB10 at the checkout for your discount.

Bid for a Michael Turner Poppy

Milford on Sea resident Michael Turner is an internationally renowned and extremely talented sculpturer.

As well as creating unique pieces that are sold across the world, he also supports the Royal British Legion every year around Poppy Day.

Again this year he has created metal poppies on plaques in his studio and has been hiding them around the local area in a Poppy Hunt for anyone to join in. All he asks the finder for is a donation to the Royal British Legion.

His generous and creative fundraising idea has already raised over £500 this year, but sadly it has now become affected by the most recent Lockdown. So, he has gone the extra mile and created another 11 Poppies and will be selling these to the highest 11 bidders with all winning bids going to the Royal British Legion.

To find out more and to hear Michael himself explain how to bid before Sunday, please click here.

To see Michaels professional work, please visit:

About Michael Turner

Since leaving school, the development of his creative and artistic skills, has led to recognition both within the UK and internationally.

During his formative years, his talent became apparent. He had an innate understanding and ability to capture the form and beauty of nature by creating bugs and insects, created simply from the most basic of materials including nuts, bolts and sheet metal found in his fathers’ garage.

From these early beginnings, Michael’s parents became aware that with his obvious creativity and flair, he needed to be professionally trained, supported and nurtured within the education system.

After finishing school in 1992, Michael chose to go to Bournemouth Art College and then finally onto Higher Wycombe University, where he graduated with honours, which was the start of a promising career in the art world.

From the depths of the New Forest

Michael established his first workshop in the green depths of the New Forest at the age of 22. He started to realise his true potential and decided to work in stainless steel, and in particular delighted in the use of recycled materials.

He knew that the material would be perfect for outdoor garden sculptures withstanding the hazards of the outdoor environment. Through nature and its various forms, Michael was inspired. At first, Michael created small insects, fish and dragonflies which kept him busy supplying several galleries around the country.

In 2010, Michael was introduced to a major gallery in London where his work took on a whole new dimension. He married and a son was born later in 2011. This gave Michael the impetus and inspiration to create a full-sized Arabian Horse, which was sold through the Gallery. This was to be the start of a whole new era. He soon began to see his work reaching a global clientele who were both discerning and appreciative of great contemporary art.

Global recognition

Michael has sold to a number of famous people amongst them being Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay. Gordon became aware of Michael’s work and acquired a full sized Gorilla, which now resides at his flagship London Restaurant. Pieces like ‘Gorilla on a Crate’ and the ‘Crocodile on a Box’, have become signature pieces for the artist, and his work is increasingly being recognized globally as ‘a Michael Turner’.

Reflection & Remembrance on Sunday

As Covid continues to cause havoc to village life, the annual service of Remembrance and the 11.11.11 village commemorations have had to be cancelled to conform with government instructions. Milford on Sea has always commemorated Remembrance with respect and dignity right across the community. But sadly, this year lockdown is not going to allow any parades or services to take place face to face.

However, The Milford Branch of The Royal British Legion with involvement from the Anglican and Baptist churches has produced a YouTube video of a trunked service which everyone can watch on Sunday 8th November at 2.45pm

The video also contains views of wreath laying at the "Field of Remembrance" in All Saints' churchyard, The Unknown Sailor's grave, Keyhaven War Memorial and at The Milford War Memorial Hospital. The Names of those who lost their lives in the two World Wars are also being read.

On the appropriate day and time, please click the image below to view the video and join in Remembrance with the Milford on Sea community.

Please note: The video will not show until the day/time above.

Note: Keyhaven will be holding a short wreath laying event without spectators at The Keyhaven War Memorial at 11am on 8th November.

Simon completes Table Tennis Marathon

Local table tennis player, Simon Heaps completed a a 24 hour Table Tennis Marathon on 24th & 25th October at The Grange School in Christchurch to assist with his fundraising to compete on the international stage once again and achieve his target of appearing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

There were 8 players, 2 x bubbles of 4 and included an 11 year old Hungarian girl starlet and a 73 year old. Simon played the entire 24 hours in his wheelchair.

Simon said; "We had loads of fun along the way including everybody playing in wheelchairs, using frying pans, hard bats and playing ping pong to name but a few. It was very challenging both physically and mentally for us all but we were helped by a delivery of Pizzas on Saturday night and a McDonalds breakfast on Sunday morning. Special mention to Tesco New Milton who supplied bottled water, fruit, protein bars and jelly babies for all players."

The local Milford on Sea community have been fantastic in giving me prizes that can be auctioned on local MOS Facebook pages to raise funds that help me in my goals to get me to the 2022 Commonwealth Para Games in wheelchair table tennis (after I lost my right leg).

Thank you everybody for your support."
