Milford-on-Sea Historical Record Society [MOSHRS] has won National Lottery support for its Bringing History Home initiative.
Bringing History Home is focused on making over 100 years of local records readily accessible to the community of Milford-on-Sea as well as for those around the world who have connections with Milford-on-Sea.
The initiative, which has been awarded an £8,700 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant, is made possible through money raised by National Lottery players, together with contributions from the Parish Council and from MOSHRS itself.
The MOSHRS shall use presentations and displays to familiarise our community with on-line access to their catalogue using their new website. Local organisations will have the opportunity to learn about the MOSHRS archive, how to access it and how to contribute to it. The MOSHRS website will also provide downloadable guides for locally important historical buildings and trails.

In 2019, Milford-on-Sea will mark the bi-centenary of the death of our most famous resident, Admiral the Honourable Sir William Cornwallis, who was Commander-in-Chief of His Majesty’s Channel Fleet during the critical months leading up to the Battle of Trafalgar.
The MOSHRS records provide some insights into the circumstances of Milford at that pivotal time in our nation’s history. Making those records more accessible to our local community will enhance understanding of our heritage..

The Society was founded in 1909 and is proud to be one of the oldest local history groups in England. We are custodians of nearly 10,000 records of Milford. Many of these are original historical documents including letters, house deeds, rate books, newspaper cuttings, postcards, photographs, paintings, drawings and maps.
The Society's Research and Discussion Group provides a forum for the interchange of ideas and information, leading to articles on matters of local historical interest being published in our Occasional Magazine.

ReplyDeleteMOSHRS Members free & visitors are welcome at any lecture for a small fee.
Complimentary coffee, tea & soft drinks available from 7.15pm, Talk commences at 7.45pm at All Saints Church Hall, Milford on Sea.
A lecture programme runs each year and these are held on the last Thursday of January, March, May, September and November.
The Historical Record Society was formed in 1909. The society researches local history and preserves records of Milford on Sea. The have wealth of records in various forms: maps, photographs, books & transcripts of early records.
